Science Projects Competition and Workshop in Jarida

Science Project Competition at Jarida, Melghat for the students from 4 AshramShala in Chikhaldara Taluka. The structure of this competition is
- 4 to 5 Students form a group and think on some issue or problem they face around or in their school or village
- The problem should be such that it can be solved using some science principles.
- Students then gather information about the topic through various sources and try to find the solution.
- Students develop working model of their solution and bring to the competition
- They present the model in the competition and answer questions raised by the judges.
What do students learn?
- develop liking for science and problem solving ability in students.
- understand better by actually making something.
- learn how to work in groups and
- how to present the model in competition
Last year, 4 tribal ashram schools namely Jarida, Doma, Raipur and Hatru participated in the competition and the number of contestants was more than 100. The children made projects on topics like water management, solar, school safety, water purification, road safety, windmills, lights, volcanoes, lunar eclipses.
The competition is followed by
Science Workshop for 3 days. Mr. Atul Yadav from Pune is conducting the same for students of Melghat. What did they do or learn is past 3 workshops ?
- Students learnt basic concepts and made electronics circuits using breadboard, PCB, different electronic components.
- Handtools and power tools were introduced in Carpentary workshop.
- Got hands-on experience in cutting, drilling, filing using the tools.
- Students made wooden name plate, wooden stand for hanging clothes & sundry things.
- Students made solar operated torch, door bell.
Maitri's local field workers, local coordinators, volunteers from Pune and Maitri's coordinators from Pune, Maitri office staff all are involved in this event.
